The yearly conference was this year focusing on new opportunities and challenges for designers in a global context. Phillips de Pury & Company is pleased to announce the showing Pallet Project, the at Phillips de Pury's pop-up program in Saatchi Gallery. Alongside the exhibition a limited edition book has been made containing a booklet about the project and four blueprints with instructions for the Pallet Chair Hi, the Pallet Chair Lo and two lamp designs. The book is available from the gallery for £25.

Starfest Christmas Installation for Andaz Hotel Curated by Libby Sellers

In the spirit of all things festive Andaz Liverpool Street commissioned studiomama to create winter-scape in the main entrance of the Hotel, for December. With curatorial guidance from Libby Sellers, Andaz invited Nina Tolstrup to create a variation on her mobile Outdoor Kitchen which was launched during London Design Festival 2010. Replete with preparation areas, hob and oven, Tolstrup’s revised mobile Christmas cart served freshly baked cookies, mince pies and warming drinks throughout the day and filled the Hotel with abundant Christmas aromas and became a spot for guests and visitors to gather and share the festive spirit. Nina also created an array of wooden star-shaped decorations to adorn the Hotel’s voluminous entrance atrium. Keeping with Tolstrup’s responsible design approach, the star decorations will be made from humble wooden off-cuts that would otherwise have been scrapped.

CC+ for SKANDIUM is a new collection from Danish Crafts that is specially selected for the design store Skandium in London. The collection is available from the store on Brompton Road from the 4th of November 2010. CC+ for Skandium is curated by Nina Tolstrup.

TEN stand award TEN won the Blueprint Award at 100% Design. TEN have teamed up with author Tim Parson on a book recording the five exhibtions at 100% Design since 2006. Check out the TEN Plan website where there is now a donation function. (http://ten-plan.com)

Techno-Craft explores how the boundary between the role of the designer and the consumer is disappearing.

The history of design and craft began with individuals making what they could not afford to buy, which created a deep and personal connection between owner and object. With the Industrial Revolution this tradition of craft disappeared as people became enamored with the abundance and affordability of mass-produced, high quality goods. With this, came the rise of cultural sameness and a loss of individual connection to objects.

Now in their fifth year the TEN collective will be showing TEN PLAN, an exhibition of projects, which will be accompanied by plans and instructions for making.

Mobile Outdoor Kitchen

When the weather is up for it, I love to cook outside. So for this summers TEN project I have been making an outdoor kitchen, so I can expand my chopping and peeling outside with also do to cooking.

The outdoor kitchen comprises of gas cooking hob, a bucket sink, a chopping board and storage for crockery, utensils and a few food ingredients. Water is connected from the garden hose and waist water is collected in a watering can placed beneath the sink, so grey water can be reused.

'Waste Not, Want It' at Bloomberg

A commission of unique furniture and art installations made almost entirely out of Bloomberg's waste. The project for Bloomberg takes the pallet project a step further working with high end cabinet makers to create a conference table and chair suite that challenges our perceptions of why useful but redundant wood is regarded as waste. Over 400 used Bloomberg pallets have been taken apart and kiln dried to create a round conference table and set of chairs.

Sketch is running a witty ”pop-up” café alongside GSK Contemporary: Earth. Complementing the exhibition's themes and with a focus on climate change and a sensitivity to the earth and the environment, sketch has created a quirky yet eco-friendly stage set interior, designed by artistic director Mark Lawson Bell. Mark's choice of chairs for the outdoor space was studiomama's pallet high chair.

'Dixon created another 'hub' around his new premises at Portobello Dock and, though there were one or two notable highlights, we came away feeling it could have been a fifth of the size. Around the V&A things are curated a little better - Libby Sellers' showing of Dick Van Hoff's work in an old car park is exceptional and Nina Tolstrup's Pallet invasion of Jacqueline Rabun's showroom is ethereal, imaginative and well worth the wander to Hyde Park Corner...'

Pallet charity project

In the slums of Lugano, Buenos Aires, Cecilia Glik has set up a charity where unemployed locals are manufacturing the low pallet chair using Nina’s instructions to turn discarded pallets into brilliant, saleable furniture, helping people in poverty to improve their lives.

This September will see jewellery designer Jacqueline Rabun open her exquisite studio and showroom in Grosvenor Crescent Mews, Belgravia to the London Design Festival. The space will exhibit designs by Studiomama and new collections from Jacqueline. My collection contains a series of original pieces made from reclaimed pallets.
